Marriott Seattle Waterfront - Seattle, WA

The original design of the Seattle Marriott Waterfront Hotel, built on a mountainside in Seattle, was not in accordance with city and environmental mandates.  Homeowners at the top of the mountain did not want an obstructed view of the freeway and waterway below.

As a result, the design of the hotel was changed in two ways: it would be two stories shorter than anticipated so as not to obstruct the view below, and an attractive roof would be added that would complement the surrounding environment.

35,000 sq. ft of blue colored concrete tile using Lehigh White cement, sand and blue color pigment was ordered for this project. The blue roof of the hotel becomes transparent as homeowners look down the mountain into the waterway.
