Laura Lee Blanton Building - Southern Methodist University - Dallas, TX

The design of this building is totally dependent on the success of design and fabrication of its architectural precast elements, which succeed in creating the building’s monumental scale. The design and execution achieve an accurate continuation of architectural style, with careful attention to proportions of column capitals, window sconces, and other elements. Each precast component is as close to stone as possible—balustrades, dentils, wall panels, window elements. This building is also significant for the way it has set the standards for two succeeding buildings designed in this area of the campus, through its convincing and extensive use of precast elements. This demonstrates the ability of precast elements to establish a wider campus or urban context.
