Statue of Sam Houston - Huntsville, TX

In September 1991 at a planning session for the 1993 bicentennial of Sam Houston’s birth, artist David Adickes conceived the idea to “build something really big that would be here for Houston’s tricentennial or quadcentennial.”

The search for a uniquely functional material to make a dream a reality led the sculptor to choose Lehigh White Cement.

Mr. Adickes’ dream of immortalizing Sam Houston in the permanence and purity of white concrete was realized through his creative vision and his use of Lehigh white cement.
