Capitol View - Washington, DC

This project excels in the use of a simple precast panel system where the crisp and clean reveals support the design intent of creating a visually interesting face pattern, complementing the tastefully contemporary design.  The rhythm between solids and voids help break up the building’s surfaces from a distance, but the true high point of the architecture is punctuated by the consistency of the panel coloration.

This 318,000 sf commercial office building anchors the southern boundary of the city’s federal district along the first major street west of the US Capitol. Its triangular geometries reinforce the acute nature of the wedge-shaped project site, with a dramatically angled masonry fin aligned toward the Capitol dome. Generous terraces and extensive glazing at the building’s upper floors and corners maximize views toward the Capitol and National Mall to the north, and the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers to the south. The building contains twelve levels of office and retail space above grade and three levels of below-grade parking.
